More games from HMGS Cold Wars

Well no matter the weather many people seemed to attend Cold Wars and I would say things seemed to go well. I had a good time gaming, I will save my comments about the Lancaster Host until another time. I did yesterday receive an email from the Host asking me about my recent stay. I will let them no just how I feel about.

For the games I played in an interesting World War I game put on by the HAWKS, Brusilov Offensive 4 June 1916: Sudarmee Counterattacks. The game was 10mm with nice figures and paper terrain buildings.  The trench system was nicely done as well.  The rules were a home set called All’s Quiet on the Eastern Front.  Rather than get into the blow-by-blow of the game I will just say it was fun and show photographs.

Del Stover of the Wednesday Night Gamers of Alexandria put on the Battle of Piedmont: 1864, ACW game on Friday.  Del used his nice 10mm figures and Johnny Reb III rules and got a variety of players as the pictures below show.

Saturday morning I was fortunate and got to play in a really fun game.  A new set of rules being written by Bruce Weigle called 1871 or Blood & Iron.  If you don’t have his 1859, 1866 or 1870 set of rules you might want one depending on the period the information on battles is great. The Rules are a fast play version of his rules in the previous mentioned books.  I found them very entertaining and the battle The Bavarians Again in Bind: Villepion, 1 Dec 1870 was fun and tense.  The battle was decided in the last turn and both sides did things unexpected. I want to say Bruce really puts on a great game with both nice figures and terrain that is just crafted masterfully.
